This qawwaali is from the pen of Dil Lakhnavi. The other song – “Dardiyon Na Jaane O More Raja ’ covers almost ¾th of the EP record released for this film (as per information in HFGK). Kanu Roy and Shankar-Shambhu each composed one song for this film. There are two songs in this film, one each penned by Dil Lakhnavi and Gyandev Agnihotri. ‘Tumhaaraa Kallu’ (1975) is a presentation by Aarohi Film Makers, Bombay, and it is directed by Basu Bhattacharya. The main cast of this film consists of Kuldeep Bhagi, Kajri, Somnath Mukherjee, Devendra Khandelwal, Manik Dutt, Urmila Devi, Shaili Shailendra, Dharmveer, Shubhra, Radheshyam Dixit, Bharat Bhushan (not the Bharat Bhushan we know), Nagardas Sharma, Mahesh Dubey, Jagdish Bansal, Shankar-Shambhu, Ramkumar, Babban, Kamal, Ghanshyam, Dulari and Anita Dutt amongst others. This film was passed by Censor on. Today I introduce to you, a qawwaali by these legendary singers from the film ‘Tumhaaraa Kallu’ (1975). The second one sung by them is “ Kissa Hota Hai Shuru“. They are part of the famous qawwaali from film ‘Barsaat Ki Raat’ (1960) – “ Nigaah e Naaz Ke Maaron Ka Haal Kya Hoga“. On our blog we have two qawwaalis sung by them. I think they have sung more non filmy qawwaalis than they have sung for films. “Hum Lootne Aaye Hain”, which will be introduced in the post following this post).Īs I was curious to know more about ‘Shankar-Shambhu’, I searched on the internet and found some qawwaalis sung by them, including ‘Non-Filmy’ also.

Now during all those years whenever I read or discussed about qawwaali, one name that was always in my vague memory was the name of ‘Shankar-Shambhu’ and I was almost sure that there was a movie made on them.īut, that is how our mind gets made up from things happening around us when we are growing. I remember in one orchestra from Jalgaon there was one singer who used to sing the “Chadhta Suraj” number very nicely and he was very well appreciated by the audiences each time this orchestra team visited our place.įrom the early seventies to late seventies, and thereafter to the qawwaalis of current times, the popularity of qawwaali has been going through changes and fluctuating according to times. In the seventies too there have been many popular qawwaalis in Hindi films. These were also the most ‘in demand’ in ‘orchestra’ during Ganpati festival and Durga Pooja seasons. The qawwaalis mostly popular and heard on the loud speakers were “ Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom Sharaabi” (‘Five Rifles’, 1974), “ Raaz Ki Baat Keh Doon To’ (‘Dharma’, 1973) and “ Chadhta Suraj Dheere Dheere“, a non film qawwaali by Aziz Nazaan (from 1970). Talking about qawwaalis, I remember, in my childhood there used to be programs of Qawwali muqabla (competition) and mushairas, and in ‘quawwali muqablas’ the names that easily come to mind is the name of Shakila Bano Bhopali, Jaani Baabu Qawwaal and Aziz Nazaan.
